Established in 2010 A.D. (2067 B.S.) by an Act of the Nepalese Parliament, Far Western University is a government-funded institution founded with the purpose of advancing higher education and development in the Far Western (Sudurpaschim) region in particular, and across the nation in general. The central office is located in Bhimdatta Municipality (formerly Mahendranagar), Kanchanpur District, in Sudurpaschim Province. Its establishment was the outcome of the long and dedicated efforts of the local people of the Far-Western region to expand access to higher education and promote socio-economic development. Far Western University currently provides education through multiple faculties and constituent campuses across the nine districts of Sudurpashchim Province, along with 30 affiliated colleges located in various parts of Nepal. The School of Engineering was initially established under the Faculty of Science and Technology and was later developed as a distinct entity under the Faculty of Engineering. The Faculty of Engineering at Far Western University is one of the leading faculties of the institution, dedicated to providing high-quality technical education and fostering excellence in engineering and innovation.
